Traditional grip drummers, forgive the poor left wrist position. I'm compensating for a left forearm issue.

Once again, a recording made just prior to the Big Swing Face recording sessions. The tune is Naptown Blues. How about Ray Starling on piano and Ernie Watts on Sax!

Jay Corre, Buddy Rich Big Band "Sister Sadie"

Superb big band jazz, recorded just days before the Big Swing Face album was recorded. I love Jay Corre's playing, and his arrangement of this great Horace Silver tune. I also like Buddy's choice to up the tempo from the Swingin' New Big Band version.

Another track recorded at a concert just days before recording began at The Chez for the Big Swing Face album. Oh how I love Jay Corre on sax! And how about Buddy's drum break at 3:30?!!

This recording was made just days before recording began on the Big Swing Face album. Once again we marvel at the one and only Buddy Rich and his Big Band! He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
Buddy Rich drum solo, Greensleeves 1973

Here's a private recording made on a portable cassette player. Definitely not professional quality. But those of us who are really into Buddy never get tired of hearing him - especially when he solos! This is from Reading, PA on 9 April, 1973.

Because of viewer interest in the Dave Carpenter, Buddy Rich Duet I recently posted, I decided to post another gem. Here's Dave & Buddy with the marvelous Bill Cunliffe - the same excellent trio captured so beautifully on video at the Berlin Jazz Festival 1984. Priceless stuff! Tune is Tee Bag.

Here's one for the BR connoisseur. This audio demonstrates how Buddy loved to feature other musicians he respected. It also shows Buddy's amazing versatility. Here he lays the foundation, then beautifully supports Dave Carpenter's improvisations in Rock Shuffle (or Shuffle Rock, if you prefer).

If I may... A tribute to my home town, Cleveland Ohio. Cleveland was the butt of many a joke back in the day. But Cleveland loved Buddy, and Buddy appreciated Cleveland! Check out the audience reactions, and what Buddy says after the song ends.

Buddy Rich drum solo 1955 - Melodies by Martin
Demmmmm?????
One of his most tasty solo's I've heard...
Irritating to watch, and hear.
Cloudview787 this is an absolute masterpiece of a performance especially the chart New Blues, one of my personal favorites. Such a hauntingly beautiful piece 😮🎉❤
Yes great performance, and I love New Blues too!!
I was there . That night he was taken by ambulance and then he has flown to Miami . Heart issue
Wow!! You saw quite a unique performance. I feel bad for Buddy that it was SO hot and he was struggling physically SO much. But of course he managed to pull off his demanding WSS drum solo nevertheless!!
BUDDY RICH is one of the greatest drummers of all time his drum solos are simply mind blowing and jaw dropping
класс!!!
Najbolji od najboljih
Don't care what anyone says. There isn't a single drummer alive that could pull this off. And I've seen every single death metal drummer there is. There will never be another Buddy. Not even close.
As a drummer, love to see the old high and simple cymbal set up, very charming and characteristic of that time in the drumming world
Precise as a shark, quick as a jet.
Talk about hitting the ground running! There ain't no bands like this no more on TV shows. Brilliant players, one and all. Rich is, of course, awesome.
best coast is gorgeous here the only other take of this tune that comes cloae is my toads place in new haven clip i posted on mike james site the raw emotion and dynamics and feel are set so high few of us will ever get to that point ourselves were lucky bc we HEAR it and we def have the ability to actually FEEL IT the others see speed and chops which is the initial draw but when you dare to listen closer to buddy as we all here have its just so obvious music was always meant to be played this way.. i strive everytime i sit down to at best get close as i can to this..do i cut it? maybe at times but if youre like me? who do WE draw our inspiration from? certainly not wekle lol cert not negrossout (that stupid kid who thinks hes the next br) nope! not even k miles close
I have appreciated Best Coast since it first appeared on the Stick It album! Great chart. And yes the initial attraction for most people of Buddy Rich, is the speed, intensity, technical brilliance, etc. But for those who take the time (and who have the ears to hear it) the amazing musicality of the dynamics & feel - in songs like Best Coast - eventually stands out too. One Of A Kind he was.
I think John Bonham took many ideas of playing from Buddy....
Amateurish camera work here…and annoying at times.
I'm hearing Ginger Baker here, like subtle building a drum crescendo.
I had a Buddy Rich encounter. I stood at the cymbal for a whole show as New watched me almost touching his cymbal you see at Griffent's Obsurbatory during a free concert in 1969.
He’s no Lars
Love that Carson line after the anecdote. “And who would read it to you anyway” That’s when you’re genuinely great friends when you can take the piss like that, and you both belly laugh out loud.
Tune is boring as hell however well executed.
wow
I was so lucky to have been able to see that very show live. I went back stage after the show and buddy signed one of his instructional books for me.
Wow!! That is fantastic. I am so happy for you.
He's just lucky I wasn't around to do a drum-off.... Lol
Awsome ❤
Love this!!!!!!
This is absolutely gorgeous 😍!!!
I loved when he was still with Pam Lee
Buddy has amazing control he used the edge of his snare as a cool down only for a pick me up. Amazing
One of the very drummers to slap the skins! So many others have sampled his prowess!
10:10 Superhuman coordination and synchronization.
👏👏👏👏👏👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Except for him, Neil Peart was the2nd best. And everyone is chasing them.
When you cant see the sticks any more ,I just started to laugh.
Hurts my neck to watch this! Badass solo.
Rest assured that the lighting guy got his ass absolutely ripped apart after this show
A great pair!
Never took a lesson in his life, you posers
This is like an orgasm from conception to fruition lol So good
I'm a Brit in my late 60s I saw Buddy on the London Palladium on tele when I was a kid, he was just magnificent, I was awestruck.
That is wonderful!! According to the Buddy Rich discography, the Palladium concert was March 10, 1968 and then shown on BBC TV.
This IS insane!!!
Paradiddles are nice...
GOAT with the sticks, he was my late father's hero and his inspiration to play the drums 🥁 🔥💙
Amazing like Billy Cobham, Tony Williams etc...
Although I agree that this demonstrates a level of skill the is beyond almost all others, it just doesn’t do that much for me. Playing fast. Playing fast perfectly. Just doesn’t do anything for me.
Monsters
The thing about music is your personality shoes. Buddy was great and definitely on of the greatest! But for my money and wholesomeness.. I choose Joe Morello every time!! Thank you two gentlemen for the best of the best
Wow! I have no idea what I just witnessed.....but it was awesome.
Not quite my tempo
Best ever
Comes close to Lars’ skills😁
